Exploring Christianity

At St John’s, we want to give local people repeated chances to hear the Christian message straight-forwardly explained, and to think about what it would mean to follow Jesus for themselves

One of the reasons St John’s exists is so that guests and visitors can look in on our life together, hear Christians talk about their faith and ask any questions they have. We'd love you to join us!

We also offer lots of other ways you can explore more. For example, you could…

…Read one of the easier bits of the Bible.

Probably the best way to find out what Christianity is, is to read the Bible – God's words to us! Most people find the best place to start is one of the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke or John (they are about three quarters of the way into the Bible). The Gospels are basically Jesus’ life story, and you can take one of our free copies. We suggest starting there, and perhaps finding a Christian friend you can read with or go to with your questions.

If you'd like someone from church to read the Bible with, get in touch.

…Arrange to meet up with someone to talk.

If you have specific questions, or doubts, or challenges to Christianity, we're always happy to arrange an informal meet up between yourself and a member of the church. Chris (the church vicar) loves having conversations about Jesus and is always available to talk. Or if you'd like someone your age or gender to meet up with, we'll do our best to make that happen.

Get in touch with Chris through the Contact Us page or ask him on a Sunday.

…Join one of our courses

Every now and again we run short 'courses' to help make sense of the Christian faith. Whether you grew up going to church or know nothing about Christianity, over a series of weeks we look at who Jesus is, why he came, and why that is good news for everyone. Sessions are less like a class or church service, and more like a conversation. You can ask any questions you have, and you don't need to know anything about Christianity or the Bible.

Contact us if you’re interesting in joining a course.
