The message of the gospel is not simply a nice idea or sentiment; it is the power of God. the good news is this: that we can be taken out of a life dominated by selfishness, sin and the brokenness of this world and transferred into God's eternal kingdom of hope, right-living and freedom. St Paul has experienced this power of God through his own encounter with Jesus Christ on the Damascus Road and he writes this letter to the church in Rome to build their faith and confidence in the power of Jesus Christ.
